Mablethorpe Primary Academy

Music

Subject Coordinator - Mrs K Sanghvi

I have always had an interest in Music ever since I was a child. I learnt to play the recorder when I was seven years old and then I progressed to playing the violin when I was ten. In addition, I enjoyed being in the school choir, orchestras at both school and county level and played in small group ensembles. This love for music in my primary school became my passion which I followed through to degree level, obtaining a 2:1 Hons Degree in Performing Arts - Music. Along my musical journey, I have also played a variety of instruments from Marimbas, Xylophones, Timpani, Viola and Double Bass. I am currently learning how to play the Baritone Horn since I always wanted to join a wind orchestra!

My aim as Music lead is to foster the love and passion I have for music to the pupils at Mablethorpe Primary Academy. My aim is to develop pupils' musicality by providing musical opportunities not only in Music lessons but throughout the school by singing  and playing instruments in assemblies, lessons, offering choir and recorder clubs and through performances. I am working closely with Lincolnshire Music Services to also offer instrumental tuition to specific year groups.

In our Music lessons, we follow the Model Music Curriculum and we have adapted it to link with our termly enquiry questions in the Wider Curriculum. Each unit in each year group involves learning a new song as a class and then using this to help us explore the following themes: Listening & Appraising, Singing, Playing Instruments, Improvisation, Composing and Performing.

I am looking forward to working with staff and pupils on our musical journey and develop pupils musicality and joy for music.
